Scammer prevention 101
Ok so scammers are a pretty big thing on any sales app. So I’m going to give you the rundown of how to detect a scammer.
10 Cardinal rules
1. If it’s way below MSRP or reasonable price it’s too good to be true. People who are selling know what they have and want to make money
2. Only pay with PayPal Business or HopUp. I get it you don’t want fees but it’s either risk a scam and play the waiting game
3. Don’t use Venmo, Cashapp, Zelle, etc unless you meet with the guy in person and do not send money ahead of time. Only use these for face to face transaction.
4. Check vouchers. I get new guys are coming and going but vouchers = successful sales/trades/purchases. <5 vouchers are sus. 0 even more so.
5. Research your products people.
6. Check for profile pics. Lack of profile pic partnered with 0 vouchers is likely to be a scam like 90%
7. Check if there item is posted elsewhere or if the picture they sent is from someone else. Many times I have been sent someone else’s gun paired with a stupid low price for it.
8. If trading, higher vouchers ship first. It’s my rule showing good faith on the other side. I usually ship shortly after within a day but you can’t wait till receiving. Be firm with your trades if not in person you don’t want to loose it.
9. Report scammers don’t make posts. The faster you shut them down the fast HopUp can deal with them. Saying don’t do business is worthless if you don’t report them.
10. Be safe. If doing business in person go to well lit areas/high traffic areas. I have had a friend get stabbed for an airsoft gun. That KWA vector is nice but not worth your life.
If you’re new and have questions feel free to respond to dm me. Oldies like myself who have been around the block feel free to add your tips. Little tired of all these posts of scammers being the bulk of the threads.
Addendum: if you get their address of a scammer. If it’s over $500 you can legally press charges on a scammer for grand theft (not legal advice)
