Project Blackwater
Since 1952 Paducah’s Gaseous Diffusion Plant provided up to 7,000 jobs aide in a place where nearly a quarter of the population are living in poverty. The facility once fueled our countries nuclear race and supplied well known super fund sites like Oak Ridge.
Federal officials have now confirmed that a radioactive black ooze was found seeping from the ground near the facility. The investigation lead to the discovery of a burial ground of radioactive materials that the facility wrongfully disposed of. Since then, the government has admitted it kept workers at uranium plants in the dark about their exposure to radiation.
It is now estimated that the radiation contaminated 10 billion gallons of groundwater tainted with trichloroethene and 250 million gallons tainted with radioactive technetium-99, a product of fission.
